Moonlit Traditions offers an immersive journey through traditional Chinese holidays, each aligned with the lunar calendar, enriched with their corresponding legends and a flavorful recipe to bring the celebration home. Featured holidays include 春节 (Chinese New Year), 元宵节 (Lantern Festival), 端午节 (Dragon Boat Festival), 七夕 (Qixi Festival, akin to Valentine’s Day), 中秋节 (Mid-Autumn Festival), and 重阳节 (Double Ninth Festival). Each story page highlights unique colors associated with each festival, deepening the connection to its traditions and lore.
The website was born from a personal desire to explore and connect more deeply with my own cultural roots. It’s designed to offer a similar experience for those who wish to learn more about Chinese holidays while enjoying an interactive, fun experience complete with recipes to try at home.
Inspired by MÁLÀ PROJECT in NYC, a Sichuanese restaurant founded by four friends, Moonlit Traditions combines vivid colors, subtle animations, and musical undertones to evoke a homely, nostalgic atmosphere reminiscent of Wong Kar Wai’s iconic storytelling aesthetic—capturing the warmth and beauty of tradition in a modern, digital space.
